Well, I'm a long-time TextPad user, but have been working a contract for
eight weeks now where Ultraedit is the standard. I've believed for a
long time that both are good - probably equivalent in most ways.
But now that I feel I've got a pretty good grasp of Ultraedit ... I've
just downloaded and installed TextPad on my at-work machine.
I was wrong about them being equivlent. *Equal*, probably, but they're
_just different_ enough that I would not advocate anyone try switching
back and forth. Whether I'll buy another TextPad license, or just put
up with the nag screens on startup, remains to be seen, and probably
mostly depends on how long this contract ends up going. Buying an
Ultraedit license for my home machine was a consideration until just
recently, but is unlikely now that I've unified my own environments.
And I probably won't try to convert any co-workers, either.
