It's a nice idea but IMO it's overkill. Any data important enough for that
level of care should be writeen to a database and/or otherwise ensured that
it is saved. In the event of improper shutdown the thought that some
preference settings are lost just doesn't strike me as all that important.
Besides, I know that INI files can be flushed to disk and I'm assuming it's
possible to do the same with the registry (just never tried that).
