You seem to be taking it personally. My criticism is not personal. I don't
recall ever "objecting" to anything you've posted. I might have disagreed
with you in the past (and I'm sure I will in the future), but isn't that one
of the benefits of these newsgroups? To get different opinions? I don't
"disapprove" of your code. I'm saying, IMO, that you don't always post
answers or code that befits what the OP can understand, and I can find no
other reason for doing so other than to show your own expertise (call it
bragging if you want: I don't care).

I'm saying that, IMO, the BEST way to help people is to keep things as
simple as possible, yet still accomplish the goal. I have no problem
whatsoever in providing alternatives. I think it's most helpful when
alternatives are presented...that's how we all learn new things. But I also
think you (not necessaily "you", but all repliers) need to "read" what the
OP posted, and from that, get an idea of his/her knowledge and experience
and write a reply that is going to make sense at a level you perceive the OP
is at....and that is what I don't think you do on a regular basis (and I'm
not saying that I do it all the time either, so don't bring up past posts of
mine where maybe I've talked over somebody's head). IMO, you tend to write
replies, which are correct, but likely go way above the head of the person
asking the question. Let's look at the question which started THIS
thread....the OP asked how to determine a positive number from a negative
number. You and I and many others can do that in our sleep (hopefully, none
of us have dreams about it). This person COULD NOT. That's why he had to
ask. But what does that tell you? It should tell you that the OP is
probably new to VB and new to programming in general. Don't confuse him
with code like IsNegative = inVal And &H80000000 that he's NOT going to
understand. He'll learn that when the time comes. At the very least,
EXPLAIN the code, which you didn't do in any sense until you replied to my
post (and even then, the OP might very well not understand what "queries the
sign bit directly" even means.

If you want to write such code for yourself...fine.....but it's different
when you're trying to help others. You need to provide examples and answers
that you believe they can understand.....otherwise, you'll just confuse them
more. Granted, this isn't always easy.
