I'm here mostly to help people get /stuff/ going.
I learned from teaching university classes that also being "a friend" to your students
is pretty much an entirely orthogonal pursuit. In person, I almost always go to the
extra trouble. Online, I find I can do more, with less time, if I don't bother, or
even sometimes get a little harsh on purpose. Some students *need* that, even in person.
Some day I may even put VBCurmudgeon.com back online, and it would seem kind of silly
to be a "nice guy" via that sort of interface.
Most people who are worth befriending online seem to eventually discern what I'm up to
anyway.
