Help regarding Direct X 9.0 (Volume control)

HI!!1
I am making one application in VB.NET In which the users will
select the type of microphone and then chnage the volume through
control volume(simailr to the volume control in task bar)

I want the user to use the controller of my application to control
the volume of microphone

I tried a lot using Direct X but not able to configure how to do
that........................ and my office is banging on me
I hope that anyone will surely let me know about this how to do
this?????????????????????????????????????????
