Hi John,
Not wishing to upset anyone within this NG, but I thought at least I would
attempt to provide an answer to your question....albeit to inform you of the
specific .Net NG's is worthwhile!
Q1. A1 - Yes, vb.net as well as almost all programming languages creates (or
can create) programmes to run on yours, or others, PC's. Presuming that you
choose the correct type of project.
Q2. A2 - Yes. vb.net includes extensive dB classes, including ODBC, Oledb
and sql. Any of these can be used to write code that will access as Access
dB.
Q3. A3 - I have a few books regarding vb.net and database programming,
although I don't believe I have anything specifically relating to VS.net.
IMO, the IDE is reasonably intuitive and if you have experience with other
IDE's then you should find it no problem. If not, you may have to search for
books on the internet or browse through any large national bookstore (sorry,
not particularly helpful!). As for vb, I have selected a couple of MS MCSD
books, albeit not MS Press. You will always find database examples in such
books as in almost all workplaces you will, in one way or another, need to
be accessing a database. Whether it be for internal purpose's or external
via the internet. I think most companies will use dB's to validate user
credentials when logging onto the network, and certainly when logging in
through an intranet when using IE.
The upshot is that you have the tools. You just need the knowledge!!
:-).........just enough to be dangerous. Good luck.
