Re: 429 ActiveX component can't create object when connecting

No. Because the user has windows ME, the only way to uninstall and resintall
MDAC is to repair windows with the installation cd. But we don't want to try
this with the user, risking his other applications to run unproperly.

I just tried to install JET on his windows ME and reboot the computer. It
did
not fix the problem. The application still gives a 429 ActiveX component
can't create object when trying to connect to the database.

ADO 2.5 was the last version to include the Jet drivers.

Try going to http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/ref/mdac/downloads/ and
downloading whatever Jet 4.0 SP 8 version is appropriate for your
environment.

One of our customer is using our vb6 application and it was working
fine
before he installed quickbooks (that's the only change he made to his
computer before our application stopped working. We don't know if
quickbook
corrupted mdac for sure).

Then he received a runtime error 429 "ActiveX component can't create
object"
when trying to connect to our sql server or when trying to connect to
an
access 97 database (using ADODB.Connection, with Driver={Microsoft
Access
Driver (*.mdb).

The computer has Windows ME (Millemium) on it.

TEST WE TRIED :

When trying to install mdac (we tried 2.6 and 2.8), the setup shows 3
errors :

1. Error registering the OCX C:\Program Files\Common
Files\System\ADO\msado15.dll

2. Error registering the OCX C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\OLE
DB\sqlxmlx.dll

3. Error registering the OCX C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\OLE
DB\sqloledb.dll

We tried to run windows update to see if there was any updates linked
to
mdac but there was none.

Installing mdac 2.6 or 2.8 gave the errors mentionned above.

We also tried to get a log file for the mdac installation but no log
file
was generated.

Do you have any advice on what to do? Thank you.
