Crystal flat file export in text format

I'm trying to find a option in crystal reports to export just the data, and
none of the formatting, sub-totals etc. Is there one, or should I just go
back to a SQL query writer? The numerous export functions seem to create
formatted files, either full of white space, or with the data misplaced
from its field holder.
