Thanks Dale!
Going back over these posts, I've noticed that the bug is ONLY
occuring on an XP system in the compiled application, when
SP6 is installed on the XP system.
Sam McBride originally identified the bug, Maurizio Benvenuti
posted a thread on the work around, which consists of a
manifest file.
The component involved is the mscomctl.ocx file which houses
the ListView control.
I have set up a webpage describing the problem, and there are
links on that webpage to two small apps, that were compiled
with XP, SP6, as well as the source code.

I don't know if I've missed something. Let me know if something
else needs to be added.
In some of my previous threads I have posted that the problem
file was mscomctl.dll. That was a mistake, it is mscomctl.ocx.
