Brian,
thanks for your reply. The only way I seem to be able to do it "Install
pre-built application" is by using the exported server application from the
XP box.
This is an .msi. I then configure the application with the remote server as
the win2003 box and export again, as an application proxy and install it
locally on my development
box. when I try to create the object in vb6, I get the error that the
Identity is configured incorrectly (if I use a specific user name and
password). However, if I configure it to use the local services account, I
can create the object locally but then the server doesn't seem to be able to
access any other machines on the network.
I have tried installing it using both myself as the user and using the
Interactive user and still get the Identity configured incorrectly error.
What to do?

Try removing and reinstalling the COM+ package. Don't create an empty
application first, but be sure to select the "Install pre-built
application" option.
Also, make sure that COM+ is enabled on Windows 2003. By default it is
turned off.
