I used to lurk on a vb group and now can't find it (after a reformat).
I am really looking for the main group - quite busy I seem to remember - where beginners' problems were addressed and also there was discussion about the ending of Microsoft's support and the attempt to move everyone to vbnet. Was this the group or can someone point me to it.
microsoft.public.vb.general.discussion
Second question. Will vb 5 or 6 work in the latest operating systems? I know it seems to work on XP Home. Then does it matter if MS doesn't support it any more, because there is big store of knowledge out there amongst enthusiasts.
So far, the answer appears to be yes, though with a few problems on some
beta versions - which is simply to be expected.
I understand that support for VB6 under Vista has even been officially
"announced" by Microsoft.
VB5 under Vista seems to be an unasked question so far, but IMO there
may actually be fewer reasons to expect 5 to get broken than 6.
Unless of course someone breaks something intentionally.
By the way, I strongly recommend you not care very much about XP Home,
or for that matter, WinME. Anyone using either of those really should
upgrade to XP Pro, Win2K, or even 98SE (yes, I'm saying it's an UPgrade)
Personally, I find Win2K serves my needs best on any machine which
didn't come with XP Pro preinstalled. Though I do still maintain one
box with Win95b, partly for testing purposes.
