Please leverage newsgroups and make them the most effective possible.
That means answering the poster's technical question only. If you want
to start a greater discussion, whether it be a tired theme such as this
or something else - well, start a new thread with an appropriately titled
subject. For that matter, also choose an appropriate newsgroup for your
soapbox.
Time is of the essence, and wasting time having to track through threads
like this is a drag.
