I appreciate your fustration, also please appreciate my fustration in not
being able to provide more help. I don't have that printer to play with. I
have no clue what might have been changed. (A ton of unhelpful guesses. <g>)
But I am 99% certain there is a combination of settings and driver out there
that WILL work. The driver may not be specifically labeled or meant for the
"Epson DFX-5000". Try other Epson and Epson-style print drivers. Don't
forget to try drivers direct from the vendor and not just the ones packaged
with Windows.
Trust me, I know it can be quite maddening at times, but there is a
combination that will work to your satisfaction.
There is always the one percent chance Billy did target your Epson for
failure. <g> Therefore, if worse comes to worse there is the Print Driver
DDK.

In your case the driver will relatively simple since you are not fooling
with fonts. The sample provided may do the job with minor tweaking.
Be warned that the two times in recently memory I went that route, I spent
several weeks getting some ancient device to work, only to discover a couple
of months later a ready-built solution. <g>
