I have an intranet running on sharepoint 3.0 that I edit using sharepoint
designer. The other day something happened to the default.master. When I
view the site in a browser, it works fine. When I try to edit it in
designer, I get this message, "The server could not complete your request..
Contact your Internet service provider or Weber server administrator to make
sure that the server has the FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint
Services installed." The SharePoint Services are installed and work fine
when viewing the pages in a browser. When the pages are opened in designer,
along with the mentioned error, I also get a message that the default.master
is corrupt. All my controls have either, "Error Creating Control" or "Error
Rendering Control" do to unknown tags.
I have downloaded sample default.master pages from Microsoft but get the
same errors. I even created a new web application in sharepoint. When I
open this new application in designer, I get the same errors.
Any help in finding where the problem is would be greatly appreciated.
I think I have seen this before in version 2.0.......in that case
there was a web part that had an error. I would recommend closing
(not deleting) the web parts and then trying it again. If it opens in
designer, then add them back one at a time.
Hope it helps! Good Luck!
