Help, I have tried everything

I'm hoping there is a simple answer for this, but I can't find it. We
have a document library that has dosuments as well as links to
documents. For our view we have the icon and title columns. We use
the title column to describe the file contents to the user. The issue
is that a linked document doesn't have a title field, so in this view
the linked documents just have an icon with no title. How can I get a
title field for a link, or what field should we use so that all of the
files have a description that is not the actual name of the file.
