Hi Tim,
From your description, you found that the eps extension files you uploaded
to SPS document library will always become .ps file when you open or
download it again, correct?
I've performed some research on this and did found some records about this
problem. The main problem here is due to the MIME setting in IIS. The
changes to the MIME settings done in IIS were not reflected to Sharepoint
after the files were uploaded to the site.
Here is the resolution of how to adjust the MIME type in IIS:
RESOLUTION:
- Opened IIS and right clicked on the Server name and clicked on
Properties.
Clicked on Edit under Computer MIME Map and selected the Edit tab.
- Clicked on New type and entered .eps as the Associated extension. Typed
in application/octet-stream under Content type (MIME).
- Clicked on New type and entered .ps as the Associated extension. Typed in
application/octet-stream under Content type (MIME).
- You do need to restart the IIS server and check the MIME types to see the
changes has taken.
- Test eps document again to see whethe it works correctly.
I have tested the above resolution on my side and it worked correctly.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Steven Cheng

Subject: .eps files in image libraries
Date: Tue, 6 May 2008 10:14:51 -0500
Our users are having problems after uploading .eps files to image
libraries.
The preview doesn't show and when trying to open the file it says it is
opening a .ps file. I have tried this against both SPS 2003 and MOSS 07
with
the same results.
Can anyone explain why this is happening and what might be done about it?
I'm not too concerned about the preview but the users are being very vocal
about the file extensions.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
-Tim
