Re: ********* & WSS 3.0 List E-mail Configuration

Read the post Mike. This about enabling WSS 3.0 e-mail and using the MOSS
SMTP to route. I don't think it's going to work the way I have it configured
anyway.

You write MOSS 2007 in your subject line.

You say you have a MOSS farm.

How does this make you someone who has installed the WSS 3.0 **product** ?

There's a reason for this split. It's so that people running WSS 3.0
have one newsgroup where they can get questions and answers that are
guaranteed to be for that product and not answers that only apply to
MOSS installations.

Is that a clearer explanation? There's no point in us spending time
wondering if a MOSS user's question equally well applies to WSS 3.0. If
they have MOSS there are plenty of other places to post.

If you want an answer for both products there are newsgroups (many) that
cater for you - including .setup_and_administration.

Mike,

This does concern WSS 3.0.

The situation is that I have e-mail to lists working on my MOSS farm. I
want to get it working on my WSS farm. Both are configured exactly the same.
Therefore, WSS should work, but it doesn't. I'm using my MOSS farm for SMTP
delivery to WSS (I wanted to keep the FQDN addresses the same). I see the
WSS e-mail hit the drop folder, but then it just disappears. Where does it
go? All the logs indicate a "The following aliases were unknown" error.

This newsgroup is only for people using WSS 2.0 or 3.0.

Please post MOSS questions to newsgroups that deal in them.

For instance the new newsgroups for all products such as
microsoft.public.sharepoint.setup_and_administration

I have two (2) farms on the same network. I have a MOSS 2007 farm that is
configured to e-mail to lists. This works like a champ, this is not the
problem. On the SAME network, I have a WSS 3.0 farm. I want to be able to
e-mail to lists between farms.

For this example, the company Internet address is www.moss_server.com. The
email address with FQDN would be MOSSlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for the
MOSS farm and the WSS list email address with FQDN would be
WSSlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Here’s a high level IP example:

MOSS Farm -
SMTP Server IP Address: 192.168.2.10
List E-mail Address: MOSSlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

WSS Farm -
SMTP Address: 192.168.2.20
List E-mail Address: WSSlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

SMTP is enabled on all servers involved. Admin rights to both farms are
configured on all sites. MX records are configured for all sites on the MOSS
farm. When I send an e-mail, I see it delivered to the mail drop box on the
MOSS farm, but once it disappears, I have no clue where it goes. It simply
doesn’t get mailed. I just can’t seem to get it to work.

One other note, we are NOT using an Exchange Server at this time. This is
not an option, nor is likely to be one in the foreseeable future (political
reasons). Is this even possible w/o an Exchange server (even on the same
network)?

Any thoughts?

Marty
