This issue turned out to be a Vista issue that was addressed in the recently
released Vista SP1. Ever since installing Vista SP1, Office 2007 and Share
Point work as expected.
Thanks for the feedback though.

Hosted SharePoint Site -
The work around I have (which is a complete PITA) is to reboot the system
then log into the site and check the document in from the library.
I am running Vista Ultimate (32bit) and Office 2007 Ultimate - I have tested
the site from a system running XP Pro and Office 2007 Ultimate and
functionality is as expected.
I don't know if this is a WSS3.0, Vista or Office2007 error... maybe a
mixture of the 3 technologies.

I found a number of web sites offer Sharp Point 3.0 hosting and it looked
like a good solution for creating a centralized document library, which was
our primary use. Some of the other features, like tasks and the calendar
seemed useful as well.
Anyway, I signed up for a hosted solution and was able to get everything
setup and working with a versioning document library and a client computer
running Office 2007 Ultimate with SP1. Before I uploaded our entire document
library, I decided to create a test file to make sure I could do the simplest
of tasks, ie, Open, Check Out, Modify, then check a file back in. So far,
this has been a failure. I was able to upload an Excel document. After
uploading the document I opened the file through the WSS document library,
hit the check out button in Excel and made some changes. This is where the
process breaks down. When I close the document, it nicely asks if I would
like to check it in, and I say yes.. I end up in an endless loop, the
document cannot be saved. The only way to close Excel down is to discard the
changes or save the file elsewhere. I have tried a number of ways to check
the file out, edit it and then check it back in. Nothing works.
Anyone else having trouble with internet hosted Share Point solutions and
know of things that might cause these types of problems?
