smigrate.exe -r -w Local_Web_site_URL -f backup_filename -u user_name -pw
password

is what I have listed in my FAQ item which has both read and write commands. (http://wss.asaris.de/sites/walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=71)

You seem to be missing the -f in your command line

A user acedently delete a list in a subsite, so i have to restore ist urgently!
