Re: Sharepoint Installation MSDE Location Question

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

You can't have your database accessed as a share.

You can locate it on another server in the domain as Daniel has said, but that server must then be running full SQL Server 200x.

The "MSDE" (wrong name - right name is "Windows Internal Database" or WID) database can only be installed a part of the Basic WSS 3.0 installation on the server on which you have WSS 3.0

let SharePoint install a Windows Internal Datbase (WID). You choose where
the database is going to be located in the installation.

Hello,
I have a very basic HP ML110 I woudl like to install sharepoint on to
host my company's Intranet.
Our data is stored on another file server, along with some other
items.
Can I map a network drive to that server and create a folder called
MSDE database, share the folder and give everyone read writes to it
and during the Sharepoint 3.0 setup I will create the MSDE database on
that PC?
Basically, I do not want to store the database on the ML110 as it's
not reliablit (e.g no raid) I want to store the database on another
network storage location so it can get backed up as well.
My concerns is permissions.
Let me know,
thanks.- Hide quoted text -

This would be if I was using something like SQL. I basically want to
have the MSDE database stored on my file server in a share, and I
want sharepoint to access it from there.

Or they any special share permission considerations?

.
