LOL. It's always the little things. : ) It's good that you discovered the
issue before doing anything drastic. I'm glad it worked out.

Thanks! It was my mistake as I was trying to create a site using PORT 80
as
this port is already assigned to the default web site. I cannot use it. I
changed it to 8080 and worked. THanks for your response.

Did you install WSS 3.0 using an account that had the login, dbadmin,
securityadmin roles in SQL 2005? That account needs to be allowed to
create
databases on behalf of sharepoint, and then give ownership to the
configuration database account (otherwise known as the farm account or
Central Administration site's application pool account) of the
configuration
database.

If that account does not have rights to the configuration database then
you'll get that error.

Does that help?

Hi,

We have installed SQL 2005 and then Installed WSS 3 using Web front end
option, created the database without any issues. When I go into Central
Admin
and try creating a site and put in all the detail and click on OK i get
errors and can never get into the Central Admin site at all. It says
cannot
connect to the configuration Database.

Is there anything I am missing in this process? On the services page I
have
setup to logon as a service account. Is there anything else I have do
before
creating a site?

Thanks
Raman
