Re: permissions MOSS 2007 view and edit (was WSS 3.0 view and edit)

Sorry but this newsgroup is for people who have either installed the WSS 2.0 product or the WSS 3.0 product.

There are plenty of newsgroups for people with MOSS 2007 installations.

These include the old SPS 2003 newsgroup

microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver

and the new newsgroups for all SP products and versions such as (in this case) microsoft.public.sharepoint.setup_and_installation

Please post this question to one of them (I'd suggest the latter)

(Saying WSS 3.0 in the subject does not make a MOSS installation a WSS 3.0 one!)

Hi

I have a windows 2003 R2 Server running MOSS 2007 Enterprise Edition.

I created a site called site1. In this site I created a few document
libraries. Lets say list1, list2, docLib1, DocLib2, Cal1.

When I add a new permssion for a list or document library. I have the
options check view add, edit, etc permissions. When I View, the edit
check box also gets checked. I want to be able to give user view
permission, but, I don't want them to be able to edit a document or
list item.

Why doesn't MOSS 2007 WSS 3.0 allow me to give a user just the view
permission, without the edit permssion?

Is there a way give a user only permission to view, and no edit
permission.

thanks,
