Re: SQL Database size excessively increasing after Site Collection Restore

Is it the mdf file or the ldf file that is large. we had problem with our
log file (ldf) after a restore that caused the log file to grow to 50Gb but
the mdf file was only 2gb.
What was happening was that the Transaction log backup was not clearing up
the entries and we had to do some fancy footwork to fix it.
If it is the log file, let us now and I will give you the details on our
fix.

We currently have a live WSS server in one of our offices. We do a
Site Collection Backup every night. In another office we have a DR WSS
server which we restore the Site Collection to every night. Everything
works fine on the WSS side, we can view the contents on the DR server
after the restore.

The problem we are having is that the SQL2005 database and log are
growing out of proportion to the database on our live WSS system.
Example
Live database is 2660MB, which we backup using stsadm
DR database on 1st restore is the same size
Next time the restore is performed it grows by approx 1.6Gb yet WSS
still thinks it's 2.6Gb.
Each time we restore the database gets larger. We even deleted the
contents database from the SharePoint Console but the SQL database
still remained the size it was.

Any ideas what is causing the database in SQL to be that much large in
or DR environment than in our Live environment.
