Conditional Formatting Problem

I have a Data View Web Part connected to a WSS Form Library, which
contains InfoPath forms. One of the fields in the DVWP is a "date"
field, formatted to "mm-dd-yyyy" and there is a Conditonal Formatting
set on this date to turn this field "red" if this date is older than
"Today." Does anyone know why the conditional formatting does not
work (display) when it's set to "Default" but works ok when the
visibility is set to "All formatting visible"? I suspect some date
formatting issue as all the other conditional formattings work in the
DVWP.
