I tested it and it didn't work. I hope MS comes out with something soon for
this.

Good, and disappointing, to know. Are there any first party, Microsoft
ifilters for RTF files? Isn't that what was on the resource kit CD all
those years ago?

If I were betting man I'd bet against a v1 IFilter working with a v3
product.
The CAD IFilter people are to my knowledge the only people who have said
(and only recently) that their IFilter (known to us in v2) now works with
the v3 SP products.
Again to my knowledge (but I try to follow these things to keep the FAQ
up to date) none of the other makers of third-party v2 IFilters that I
list have announced v3 versions.

Cool. I am as curious as you are as to why there is no new info on
this. Does that mean that the old ifilter still works, or does that mean
that, very quietly, it doesn't work and no one is saying anything about
it?
Curious minds want to know....; )

thanks the link directs to
http://download.microsoft.com/download/SharePointPortalServer/Utility/1/NT5/EN-US/RTF.exe
so I'm sure it's the real deal... I will install and post back how it
worked
thanks

Wow, you are absolutely right about that link not working. And there
are
dozens of blogs and articles that nonchalantly refer to that link in
order
to use the RTF ifilter.
I found that it is originally for sharepoint portal server 2001 and is
part
of that resource kit. That link is completely down, however, I found
a
forum that has a copy of the file (I think, I don't have time to test
it).
The article has step by step info on how to install the filter. It's
for an
earlier version of sharepoint, so the your experience might vary.
Here's the link if you want to give it a shot (I know people who love
that forum, but
still, use your own judgement when downloading).

Let us know how it turns out (or if you even try it).

Is there any new info on how to do this? All the links point to
www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/server/techinfo/reskit/RTF_Filter.aspx
which
is
gone. I need to be able to search RTF files, what are my options?
Thanks
.
