Search Error Since WSS 3.0 Upgrade

Hello,
We have certain sites that seem to be receiving the below error 9 out
of every 10 times a search is performed on these sites. Other sites
it doesn't happen as often. How do i fix this error?

We are running WSS 3.0 on SQL server 2000. SQL server server resides
on it's own box. All users are running IE 6. We have no
customization going yet in any of the sites in our SharePoint
install.

Error we are receiving:
"The Web Application at http://address could not be found. Verify
that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving
existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new
request URL mapping to the intended application."

How do go about fixing this error?
Thanks for the assistance.
