Here is a little more information for anyone trying to pinpoint the
trigger for the problem. I started experiencing this problem in
January around the same time I installed Sharepoint Designer while
still running Office 2003. At that point, I was the only person in
our office using 2003 and 2007 apps at the same time and we tried for
some time to fix the problem (we never though of the 2003 / 2007
conflict). Given that I've had the problem since January, the trigger
for the problem must have pre-dated the May updates/patches, as I've
had the problem since January.

One other note - I don't experience the problem consistently as others
have. I have some days where it crashes more often than not and other
days where it doesn't crash at all when I try to access a list.
Additionally, it happens for all lists for me, not just particular
lists.
