Re: Enabling Anonymous Access in Sharepoint Site Settings (grayed out)

Hi Mike,

I had seen that FAQ and I have done the settings it refers to in
IIS. In spite of restarting IIS and even rebooting the server, the
Site Settings page in Sharepoint still has them grayed out.

Hi,

I am running Windows 2003 Server (Small Business Edition) with
IIS 6.0 and Sharepoint Services 2003.

I would like to allow anonymous access to the Sharepoint site.

I have done a lot of searching on the web and reading the
Microsoft documentation. It seems that you have to enable anonymous
access separately in IIS, and then go into Sharepoint and also enable
it.

It seems to work from the point of view of IIS, because the web
authentication box stops popping up. Then you get a sharepoint page
you don't have access.

At that point, I try to turn on the anonymous access in
Sharepoint "Site Settings". I turn the IIS back to authenticating
users so I can get to the
http://whatever.example.com/_layouts/1033/setanon.aspx
Sharepoint page (Manage Annonymous Access Page). On that page, there
is a selection for "Anonymous Users can Access:" which lists "Entire
Site" as one of the options, but it is grayed out ! There is also a
"Lists and Libraries" selection that is grayed out, and the only thing
you can select is "None" !

How do I get around this ? It is obviously a common problem,
you can see people complaining about it if you search on "Sharepoint
Anonymous Access grayed out". I even tried to edit the code in
setanon.aspx to stop the selections from graying out, but so far with
no luck.

Even if you don't know the complete answer, any suggestions you
can offer at all would be appreciated as I have tried everything.
