Re: Installing WSS 3.0 on SBS 2003 after Uninstalling WSS 2.0

Hi,

I get exactly the same error message and the same log postings. Just
wondering if you have found a solution, or if anyone else has got one?

Thanks

I am trying to install SharePoint Services 3.0 on Small Business Server
2003 SP1 with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition after removing
SharePoint Services 2.0.

Everything during the installation went fine, except I cannot start the
SharePoint Services Search service. I am aware of the issues with the
search service being unavailable in a side-by-side installation of WSS
2.0 to WSS 3.0 (after migrating databases from WMSDE to SQL Server),
but as this was a clean installation using SQL Server I didn't think
I'd have any problems.

When I try to start the service I see a page containing the following
error:

Error
SPSearch ([service account])

Where [service account] is a domain user account specifically created
for the service account. A separate domain user account has been
created specifically for the content access account.

There's nothing in the Event Logs but the following is part of a line
repeated a few times in the trace log:

The call to SPSearchServiceInstance.Provision (server 'servername')
failed. Setting back to previous status 'Disabled'.
