Re: View bug?

One quick update.

I changed the Time Zone under Site Settings > Site Administration > Regional
Settings from "(GMT-6:00) Saskatchewan" which is where we are, to simply
"(GMT) Casablanca, Monrovia, Rekjavik". I went back to the list, opened the
view and bang, everything is grouped properly (i.e. December 15 entries are
showing up under the Dec. 15 heading).

I don't know if this is a bug or a config issue with my sharepoint site.
Can anyone else offer some enlightenment?

Luke,

I did a quick query on the raw data stored in the content database
(picking out one particular list item for this list). For their
particular list, there are three date columns in the dbo.AllUserData
table; tp_Modified, tp_Created and datetime2. Since tp_Modified and
tp_Created are "sharepoint" use columns, I'm pretty sure the datetime2 is
the column that stores the data for our custom column, "Reported On".

tp_Modified = 2006-12-15 22:24:43.000
tp_Created = 2006-12-15 22:24:43.000
datetime2 = 2006-12-15 22:24:43.000

Notice that all three dates are the same value, as this is the first
version of this list item, and all values should be the same. However, it
was not entered at 10:24pm on Dec. 15. At least, not our local time. It
was entered at 4:24pm our time (which is Central Standard Time right now,
or GMT-06:00). So, I played around with this number and here are the
results.

As for the column itself - we only care about the Date, so we've only
selected the "Date" option instead of the "Date and Time". What I did
was up the date to 2006-12-16 00:00:00.000. I went back to the view, but
it still grouped that particular item under the Dec. 14 heading, instead
of creating a new Dec. 15 heading, which is where I want it.

So I added some more time. This time, I added 6 hrs to make it 2006-12-16
06:00:00.000. Went back to sharepoint and sure enough, now it grouped
this one list item under a Dec 15 heading.

I changed it down to 2006-12-15 05:59:00.000 and it grouped it back under
the Dec 14 heading. So, the 6 hr time difference that we are in here
seems to be the magic number. But I'm not sure what to do next. I double
checked the Regional Settings under the Site Settings, but they are set to
the Saskatchewan entry (which is where we are) and it says GMT-6:00.

I may get a chance to play around some more with it later, but I have to
leave right now. I will followup. Let me know if you have any
suggestions I can try.

Hi Dave,

This issue may be caused by the different regional settings of the two
WSS
site, you may check this in Site Settings\Site Administration\Regional
Settings for this. Also, you may check the exact date time for the field
"Reported On", Is it like "12/7/2006 12 AM 00"? You may change one of
them
to "12/7/2006 12 AM 01", will it be displayed in group "12/7/2006"?

Sincerely,

Luke Zhang
