Re: Deploy New Server Farm, then Migrate Content Databases Question

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Luke,

Thank you for responding. I will be testing this scenario later this week and will let you know how it works. I plan to use the same database name so that this new web application resembles the original site as closely as possible and contains only one content database.

Hello Jeff,

Thank you for posting in MS community. For question 1, it is not necessary
to create a database with same name. It can accept different database then
original one. Anyway, I think it is a good pratise to keep the name consist
in case we have some original document/manual for these information.

For question 2, A web application can have multiple content database, since
it can have multiple site collection. You may open Sharepoint 3.0 Central
Adminitration, and enter Application Management, in "SharePoint Web
Application Management\Content databases" you check how many content
databases you have; In "SharePoint Site Management\Site collection list"
you can check how many site collection you have, and content database of
each of them.

Sincerely,

Luke Zhang
