Thanks Mike
the 4gb database limit rules out doing it that way (for us anyway) so I
guess we will have to hope there is some as yet undocumented functionality in
the installer which allows this - or request it in the first service pack.
Cheers

You can install the standard version of SQL Server 2005 Express first (and.
then you'll have a 4GB database size limit) and then you would be able to
specify where it is located.
But I doubt very much that you can install the special version of that that
is "Windows Internal Database" first so we'll have to find the magic
parameter (if indeed there is one in v3) for the installation of the whole
thing.

Thanks Mike
Yes it is confusing. I'm sure the advanced > File location tab was used to
relocate the log files not the content databases, but I will have to run
it
again too to confirm.
Psconfig sounds promising and I will look into that in more depth. I feel
the solution may lie in intalling Sql Express first if thats possible and
relocating the database from within that but without a documented
procedure
I'm stumbling round in the dark..

I'd might have to withdraw that - that page is very confusing and despite
the "to install to a different location" coming under the "Install and
Configures WSS 3.0 with Windows Internal Database", I wonder whether they
are still talking about Windows Internal database when they mention using
the Data Location tab.
I'll have to try this install again, I can see.
In the meantime check it out. It *might* be your solution.

Read the "Install WSS 3.0 on a standalone computer" (WSS in full)
paper.
(Go to the WSS FAQ site / Articles - 2007 Products and select the
Installation View).
There it seems on the third page (Install and Configure section) that
you
can run psconfig and that gives you the chance to select a "different
location" by using Advanced.

Hi
I asked this before when WSS was still in beta form and could not get
an
answer. Now that WSS has been released and we are under pressure to
deploy
I'll try again!
WSS v3 on Server 2003. Deployed as standalone install with embedded
SQL
server express. Is it possible to move the default content database
location
either during or after the install to another partition on the server?
This was possible under v2 (using MSDE and setupsts.exe with the
/datadir
option) but despite trawling the web I can't find a similar solution
for
v3.
We really want to be able to move the database to another partition
for
performance and security reasons.
Any ideas?
