I might be talking out of my *** here but:
Did you/Do you need port 79 opened up in Windows Firewall?

Hi Todd,
here is my config.
hosts file =- ex. 22.322.322.2 79 team.com
(79 is my port number, not sure if I need this or not)
IIS =- host header section.
team.com on port 79
When I type http://team.com:79 in the browser nothing happens, nor if
append a sharepoint address.
What are my next steps? I am running WSS 3.0
Thanks,

That depends. The hosts file only has to do with how the client resolves
names, it has nothing to do with what the server will respond to. Can
you
ping both names from the client? If so, then hosts won't help. If not,
then it might.

Hi, Yeah I tried that before and it didn't work. the WSS site will
only
function under the "true" server name.
Does the hosts file(system/driver/etc) need to be changed also? At
this
point I've been adding host name inside of IIS.

If you specify the host header "sharepoint" then that is the only name
that
virtual server will respond to. If you want it to respond to
"servername"
as well, add that to the host header list. You can have multiple
names
in
there.

I also am running WSS 2.0 on a different port# - 84
I can put in the host header but can only access my site on the
hosting
server with http://sharepoint:84 - the header. I can no longer
access
my
site through typing in http://servername:84
I know this doen't help you but - you're not alone with "header"
issues
and
different ports.!

I really want to run my internal 2.0 wss sites under a different
name
then
the server name. And I though I was so close when I added a host
headerin
ISS and inside the WSS admin tool the name was correct. Then
came
trying
to
access the new page. It didn't load, and only would when the
server
name
was
used:(
Are there any tweaks I can do to make this functionality work? I
think
I
read something about 3.0 supporting this scenario, but a sooner
solution
would be great.
My enivronment:
win2k3 std
I have to use a port different then 80, because of fax server
application.
WSS 2.0
internal only.
ISA 2004
Thanks,
.
