Re: Problems opening files larger than 40MB

If you want to copy over folders in document libraries you could try mapping
your document library to a local drive and copying the directory from that.

Otherwise it's well known that folders in doc libs do not always work as
expected. I use Views and avoid them, so I can't help you with doc lib
folders I'm afraid.

Engelbert,

The Save Target As Method works. But if I want to copy a whole
directory over as a backup for instance it won't work. Yes we do have
SP2.

Well try at least the "Save Target As" as it's a much more common method
(as
it's only one step) than Copy here and then Paste later.

Other than that, I'm as baffled as you are.

P.S. you didn't confirm that you have SP2 although as upload is working
that
probably isn't that relevant.

I'm doing a right Click and copy and then pasting it on my local drive
as well as other places on the network and I get the same results. Not
having any problem uploading any file size, just downloading and
opening.

Pictures files, video files, some larger powerpoint files to name a few
types.

The server has plenty of bandwidth of have 2 1gig NICs in there so no
problem on that end.

Perhaps you should say with which kind of files you are experiencing
these
problems.

Some, for instance I think Access files, won't open because they
expect a
second file to also be available.

Also note in addition to Todd's comment that earlier problems in
uploading
forms of ca 90MB or more (even if the upload file limit was set to a
higher
figure) went away with WSS SP2. But I suspect from your text that you
can
upload the files OK, you just can't open them. What I don't understand
(because it matches neither scenario) is why you can't copy them - are
you
right-clicking and doing Save As to copy them ?

Is there some kind of setting that is not allowing me to open files
residing in WSS v2. I cannot open and/or copy files that are larger
than 40MB. When I try to do that it gives me a "cannot find data
source error".

Is WSS v2 limited to just storing Microsoft Office files?
We are using it to store numerous file types, not just Microsoft
Office
files.

The server is showing very poor performance when using SharePoint
compared to just storing raw data. I expected a minor decline in
performance but not this major.

Any ideas?

This is what we have running:
Win 2003 Server
Dual Xeon 2.4 Processor
303GB Total HD space RAID
3GB of RAM
WSS v2
