This is the Windown SharePoint Services newsgroup. (Usually WSSv2)

SPS 2003 has a newsgroup at microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver where
they also accept MOSS 2007 questions.

We discovered on certain IE clients we could not checkout documents. We
discovered this was not related to the server, but something on the IE
client side.

I took some time to look at ows.js and found the call to the ActiveX
"SharePoint.OpenDocuments.3" was the problem.

It seemed removing references to "SharePoint.OpenDocuments.3" from the
registry fixed the problem. I'm not sure of the side effects, if any,
though!!!

The procedure I used was...

1. Close all browsers
2. Open regedit
3. Search on "SharePoint.OpenDocuments" you should find versions
1,2 and 3 of this. Wherever you see a key for "3", delete it and
its parent...

This did not happen on all our clients. There was some combination of
software we installed which may have caused it, perhaps SharePoint
Designer Beta???

Would love to know if others had same problem.
