Re: Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource.

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Based on your description, I understand that you receive "Access
Denied.
You do not have permission to perform this action or access this
resource.
Access requests are not enabled" error when you access the top-level
web
site after creating it. Is this correct?

-------ctbogart---------
I don't follow "After creating it." The share point server is on an
internet host. The site's been around a long time. I had a loging to
one section a while ago. That was deleted and might be the cause of a
SID problem, but read on: when requested from a client other than my
machine, the login box appears and my "new" credentials are accepted.
Would that imply a windows authentication problem? If so how do I get
rid of whatever is identifying my machine as "me" to sharepoint?
-------ctbogart---------

First, please refer to the following article to narrow down this issue:

You receive an "Access denied" or a "Cannot complete this action" error

message when you try to connect to a Windows SharePoint Services Web
site
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823278

-------ctbogart---------
I have brand new credentials on the server, not the "same" name as the
article implies. I have a different login name now.
-------ctbogart---------

If the problem persists, please help me collect the following
information:

1. Did you install the Microsoft SharePoint Services on SBS 2003 or
Windows
2003?

-------ctbogart---------
I will find out, almost positive it's windows 2003, it's on
webhost4life.com
-------ctbogart---------

2. Please let me know if other users with administrator permission can
open
the page correctly.

-------ctbogart---------
yes. Using my credentials or theirs.
-------ctbogart---------

3. Did this issue occur when this specific user login another
workstation.

-------ctbogart---------
no. my credentials work on another workstation
-------ctbogart---------

4. If you change the site owner to another user with administrator
permission, can that user access the page?

-------ctbogart---------
I don't understand the question. I am not the site owner now.
-------ctbogart---------

5. Please enter the following URL in Internet Explorer
http://<servername>/_layouts/1033/user.aspx and see if you can access
the
page and if you are listed.

-------ctbogart---------
I cannot access the page. Same error.

thank you
