This is all covered in great detail in the "wss admin guide." If you
haven't downloaded it yet, you should. There's a wealth of information in
there.

Microsoft really hates it when you diddle in the databases directly. It can
really screw things up. Understanding how things work is admirable, just
make sure you don't change anything in SQL and break WSS. If you call MS
support and they find out you've done stuff in SQL they probably won't help
you.

Finally, look in the "Docs" table of the Content Database your site is in.
That's where all blobs are stored.
