Hi All,
I have only just started learning about Sharepoint, and have a couple
questions.
1. Is Windows 2003 Server required for it to run on? Is there a flavor
of this that will run in a non-server environment (I.e. Windows XP)?
Windows Microsoft SharePoint Server 2003 can be run on Windows Server
2003 platform and requires a backend database, either MSDE or SQL Server
2000 (or if you want, SQL Server 2005, however your portal server must
be fully patched).
2. I'm sure it would be best if a company has some sort of IT Admin
person to manage and maintain this system, but is it really required?
Could a company get by without? Without having to get too deep into
the IT stuff??
Dual answer. Sure you can have just someone maintain it on the side,
and you will get that amount of service, just on the side service. If
you however decide to have a full time person or a team of people
supporting it you'll have a kickin' server.
