Adding directory tree with various types of documents/pictures

I have just installed Sharepoint and have just managed to get our
organisation website going. I am however facing a few problems. Help
please

1. I need to add certain directories to the library by subject. These
directories contain both documents and images. How do I add them
together as I am now being forced to add one document at a time and the
pictures to the Pictures category. Adding them one by one is also a
problem as the directories have sub folders etc and have a large number
of files.

2. Whenever i go from one site to another (not always though), I get a
prompt to enter the username and password. How do I stop this prompt?
