Re: PDF iFilter install on WSS

Engelbert,

Thanks for your reply.

I thought that WMSDE doesn't allow full-text search at all...Also, I thought
that MSDE has a limit of 2GB. SQL Server 2005 Express has a 4GB limit. I'm
going to get a copy of SQL Server 2005 (whatever the standard one is) when I
put the site up after testing. I figured that SQL Express would be a good
place to start.

I have a site with a SQL 2000 back end, I'll try that one and see if it
works with searching inside PDF files. I have no problem searching on the
full text of any Office documents on the SQL Express 2005 site.

Thanks again!

Jeff

A point that I missed in your first posting is that you are using SQL 2005
Express.

This might have some effect on your ability to search WSS sites.
Unfortunately I don't have SQL Server 2005 so I can't check.

Can you search for instance the contents of Word documents stored in WSS
document libraries ?

Engelbert

P.S. If you can't search WSS sites because of SQL Server 2005 Express then
you would be better off using the default WMSDE which doesn't have a
database size restriction.

I cannot search text inside PDF files. I've tried uploading new PDFs after
installing the iFilter, and still no luck.

How do I reindex the content DBs?

Thanks!

Jeff

You never say what your problem is. Can you not search PDF files? The
PDF iFilter works fine with WSS. If you have existing PDF files you'll
need to reindex your content DBs in order for them to show up after you
install the iFilter.

Hi,

I am using Windows SharePoint Services version 2, latest service packs.
I'm trying to get the Adobe PDF ifilter to work, so that I can do
full-text searches of PDF documents. I'm using SQLExpress 2005. The
full-text search function is enabled, and I can search the content of
Office documents with no problems. A lot of the articles I've found
seem to start talking about WSS, but end up talking about SharePoint
Portal Server instead.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Jeff
