Hi!
Actually, I was also astonished to get the default website on version 5, but
I've reinstalled the complete server twice from the original CDs, just
following the normal installation as "guided" by the system.
With areas, btw, I just meant virtual directories, such as phpMyAdmin or
similar, which I would like to have on the default website.
Leaves me back to the question: given that I am "in this mess", how can I
get out? Reinstalling did not do the job for me, and I am beyond the patience
of my users, so cannot fool around too much.
Thanks for any ideas!

I don't see how even an SBS 2003 installation of WSS should do anything but.
create a 6.0 based (Office 2003) WSS default site - I can't see how it
create a default site based on 5.0 (Office XP - STS)
So the question is how did you install SBS 2003 to get in this mess and if
it's a problem with your SBS 2003 installation then maybe the SBS newsgroup
would be the place to ask.
(microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs)
Another problem is that Areas is something that isn't available with WSS but
only with SPS 2003 so if that's what you are trying to add (" am trying to
add several areas) you're either out of luck or should be posting (if not to
SBS!) to the SPS newsgroup
(microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver)

Hi!
Is there any easy simple and safe way to upgrade the Default Web Site from
5.02.6738 to 6.0.2.6568, while not losing the working setup for
Monitoring,
Backup, Exchange, ...??
Situation:
I have an SBS2003 server up and running and am trying to add several areas
to the Default Web Site (eg. phpmyadmin, etc.) To do that I need to add
the
virtual path, no problem, then take it out of the managed paths. This
means
Share Point Central Admin -> Configure Virtual Server Settings -> Default
Web
Site.
Here comes the problem: the Default Web Site is showing version
5.0.2.6738,
whereas everything else is version 6.0.2.6568. As a consequence all I can
do
with the Default Web Site is "upgrade". However, upgrade via stsadm does
not
work, because Front Page is installed. If I take it out, then the upgrade
also does not work.
I already tried to save the configuration and set up a new Default Web
Site,
ending in total desaster: it could not read the configuration data base
anymore, and ultimately I had to set up the whole server new.
So, is there any easy simple and safe way to upgrade the Default Web Site
to
6.0.2.6568, while not losing the working setup for Monitoring, Backup,
Exchange, ...??
Really appreciate any help!
Cheers,
Hendrik
