Re: SharePoint Global Search Options

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

This is the first mention of Project Server and Project Workspaces in this
thread !

Have you tried out the Advis web part to see if you can specify these
additional "sites".

Thanks Cornelius

I was looking for a search mechanism that would search across not only
multiple SharePoint sites in the same site collection ... but also across
the
SharePoint Project Workspaces (created by Project Server using SharePoint
technology) which are each in their own site collections.

CorasWorks has a free one here:

Hope this helps.

To make a long question short, I would like input on search options
that are
available that allow for the searching across all SharePoint sites
(including
searching inside documentation) from a single page.

I have tried two solutions:

Google Mini - This was the best solution so far. It allowed me to
setup a
SharePoint collection to search where it started at the home page and
followed every URL and document and indexed it all on its own server.
I was
able to set it so that it excluded URLs that it should not index
(_layout,
_catalog, etc.). The only problem was that it is not Active Directory
aware
... so I have to give it a generic AD account to use that had read
access to
most everything.

Windows Desktop Search - Server Component - This solution was
semi-active
directory aware but required a lot of manual maintenance to achieve
good
security. It stored its index locally on every workstation which I
thought
was not good. You have to install it on every workstation. AND it
will not
install on any workstations with an O/S older than Windows XP SP1.

Any help would be appreciated.
