You can't do this with the Choice field where you are indeed restricted to
manually adding to the list.
If you only wanted to display the companies then you could for instance use
FP 2003 and Data View webpart creation to grab the companies from the
database, but how then to allow the user to select them - see them, yes,
(use them in a web part connection, yes) select them, no.
I think we're therefore into (possibly heavy) coding rather than in normal
usage of the product.
If you want to investigate that further the subnewsgroup for programming
issues is microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices.development

Hi. I'm a beginner in SharePoint.
I want to create a task list to enter the tasks we do for our customers.
One of the fields of this list is the customer name.
The type of this field must be Choice, so the user will choose the
customer by using a drop-down list.
I see that if the type is Choice I must enter manually the names of the
customers, but they can change, and there can be a lot.
So, this field must get the customers name from a data base (access or sql
server). How can I get this? I haven't seen how to get this in SharePoint.
Thanks, regards,
M.G.
