Just a quick update...
Of the 2 questions I had, I found answer for the first question.
Q: How can I change my workstation so that a Word file can be opened up in
its own Word window instead of in IE ??
A: -In Windows, open any folder and click on Tools | Folder Options.
-Click on File Types tab and highlight DOC under Extensions column.
-Click on Advanced button and uncheck the "Browse in same window" box.
The only remaining question is again:
Q: Why was there no password prompt on the workstation while there was
password prompt on the laptop ??
Thanks
Steve

Hi everyone
So we have a General Documents folder in SharePoint with various Office
files. I'm able to open the files, but the ways Windows opens them up are
not consistent - different from one PC to another.
For example, say I'm on my workstation and accessing the General Documents
through IE. When I click on a Word file, the file is opened up inside
IE. Now, when I'm my laptop and opening the same file, the file is opened
up in a separate Word window. Both the workstation and laptop have same
WinXP SP2 and Office 2003 SP2.
How can I change my workstation so that a Word file can be opened up in
its own Word window instead of in IE ??
Another example, again I'm on my workstation and opening up an Excel file
in the same General Documents folder. The file opens up inside IE. Now,
when I'm on my laptop and opening up the same Excel file, I get a password
prompt asking for password. I click on Cancel, and the file is opened up
in IE.
So, can Excel file be opened in its own Excel window instead of in IE ?
And, why was there no password prompt on the workstation while there was
password prompt on the laptop ??
Again, Windows and Office are the same on both machines.
Your help or comment on these puzzling scenarios are really appreciated.
Thank you
Steve
