Me again...this has been a strange roller coaster.
Our General Documents folder has both Word and Excel documents. When I
clicked on the different Word documents, they open straight away as expected
after the fix. That got me all excited.
Now, when I clicked a the Excel files, the password prompt came out. What
the ?
Well, I think I have enough of this for now. At least, we got somewhere.
Enjoy your day folks
Steve

Guess what ? It works now. I came back after throwing in the towel
overnight; the problem solved. I supposed the server needed sometime to
refresh the changes. What I did after making the changes was to stop and
start the website in IIS. Since nothing worked, I gave up. Had I
rebooted the server, it would have worked right then and there.
In any case, it's all good now. Thanks a million.

Thank you very much for the tip. I was very excited about this article
that you gave me as the symtom described in the article is exactly the
symtom that our site has.
Unfortunately, it didn't work for us. I couldn't be more disappointed
(not your fault, of course). I thought I had the solution after looking
for it for so long...it's such a puzzle.
Let me know if you have another idea.
Thank you
Steve

I think your problem my be solved by following the resolution
instructions in the following link....
"When You Click a Link to an Office Document on a Windows SharePoint
Services Web Site, You Are Prompted for Authentication Many Times"
http://articles.icscentral.com/Kb%20Articles/271/823553.aspx

Thanks for the tip; however, I don't think this article applies to our
problem.
I followed the instructions and found that the Basic Authentication
checkbox
has already been cleared as well as the Integrated Windows
Authentication
checkbox has already been checked. I supposed these settings are
default
when that web was created.
Please let me know if I should check something else.
Thanks again
Steve
