There are a couple of short items in the WSS FAQ about running WSS in a DC
and why perhaps not.
See http://www.asaris.de/sites/walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/II%20Installation.aspx
items 10.1 and 10.2

I am new to SP but am intending on setting it up in the near future. I
have a test server in a lab where I will be playing around with it but
I am also trying to determine the best place to install it when I go
live. My two options are:
1. A Domain Controller that is used for backups in the evening.
Throughout the day it doesn't do much of anything other then standard
DNS, authentication, etc. for around 50 users. With Backup Exec
running on it, MSDE is already installed but IIS is not.
2. My Exchange Server (not a DC). This is already running IIS but not
MSDE/SQL.
I know it's generally best to avoid running IIS on a DC but it seems as
though running SP on the 1st server would best distribute things.
Also, the 1st server (the DC) is only accessed internally. I am
planning to use SP entirely internally also.
Any thoughts/ideas from someone that has experience using SP or is more
familiar with best practices, etc. is appreciated!
