Linking My Documents to document library

Can someone please assist me with linking the Windows "My Documents"
folder, through the internet, to a WSS document libarary?
The document library is accessible from internet.
I started doing the following:

Since the (Windows) My Documents folder properties does not allow to be
linked (moved) to a web share, I created a WSS drive letter with
WebDrive.

Then, i linked the My Documents folder to the drive letter which was
connected to a document library. Apparently all worked fine. The only
problem is that when opening i.e. a word file directly through My
Documents, Word creates a hidden copy with the character ~ in the
filename. which is rejected by Sharepoint. Therefore, saving to My
Documents is possible, but opening a Word file from My Documents is
not.
