Site Group permissions vs Document libray permissions

Hello,
I have a problem or maybe just confused.
I created a site group - call it Exec Group which only allow add/view/edit
of lists - no deleting and I assigned certain individuals to this group.
I then have a doc libary where I want to assist the site group above to it.
it lets me do this , but then asks me to select permissions for this group.
"The permissions of these users will be modified. Users: Exec Group
Choose Permissions
Choose the permissions you want these users to have.
Permissions: View items
View, insert, edit, delete items
View, insert, edit, delete items; change list settings
View, insert, edit, delete items; change list settings; change list
security "
I don't want to give them delete items and would have thought that as I gave
them certain permissions as a site group this would be carried forward to the
document library???
What am I doing wrong ?
many thanks
Renata
.
