Well done Cornelius! I read the question; thought I didn't know of a script
and left it at that.

Why indeed should anyone want to create a lot of different copies of WSS?

There's one other thing I've now noticed and that is that the request is
also for the department to say on which server they wanted their WSS to be
installed on. As we know there are various possible difficulties in
installing on any old server (the obvious it needs to be Win 2003 server but
also things like removing FPSE; what if there is already a web site using
port 80 etc. etc.) all of which make a standard script for all possible
servers virtually impossible.

So your suggestion is almost certainly the only way to go.
