Re: editing documents in a doc library

To all those who tried to help:

I have some progress to report. After much help from many I think
I have a better understanding of what makes the MS Office - Share point
connection work. The features I have been having trouble with are:
Upload Multiple files to a Share point Lib.
Edit a share point doc/work***/image in the MS office application
directly.
These features are both dependent on MS Office 2003 and WinXP to
work. I have checked that the Webclient service is running and set to
automatic and that MS Office was installed with the Windows Share point
Services Support tools set to run from my computer (this is the default and
can be found by - Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs - MS Office Professional
- Change - Add/Remove Features - Choose Advanced Settings - Office Tools -
Windows Share point services Support). This was all correct when I checked
it. On a hunch Per suggested uninstalling the Windows Share point Support
and reinstalling it. Magic it works on that box. I then checked a second
box and NO GOOD! After some discussion back and forth Per and I realized
that the key was remembering exactly which box is the client in a particular
situation. So now the story gets more complex.
First, the box we got to work was a Terminal Server in an SBS
domain. The TS has Office installed on it. When to get to the TS through
RWW and then open Companyweb (which is on the SBS server) the 'client' is the
TS box and reinstalling the Windows Share point Services Support cured the
problem. The other boxes are being accessed via RWW also and that results in
the 'client' being RWW not the local machine. The only way Companyweb can be
accessed directly by a local machine is either from inside the LAN or if
companyweb is published as a Web Service from the internet. After I realized
this I went to my test SBS box at the house via RWW and published Companyweb
using my newly installed ISA2004 (piece of cake) then logged in to Companyweb
from the office with https://server:444 now I see the correct behavior on
that test SBS box too.
So, if you have followed thus far, there were two problems. First
my MS office install on the TS was corrupt for some reason and second I did
not understand exactly what the "client" machine was when using RWW or RDP to
get remote access to a computer.
If any of this sounds WAY off the mark please let me know.
